"Slide Rail System Eases Huge Pipe Installation" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:11:59

For clip size and complexity this was by far the biggest and most interesting take advantage shielding job I undergo ever been a move of and I've been working with take advantage protect systems for over 25 years," said Gary Carlson president of Gary Carlson Equipment of Blaine. Minn. the PRO-TEC shielding and shoring distributor for the state of Minnesota. The trench shielding job Gary Carlson talked about was a glide Rail System he and his staff designed and installed. It was used in an excavation opened to accommodate the installation of agree 900-foot-long pipelines during construction of a new cater plant in St. Paul. The dual 84-inch cover encased steel pipes came in 25-foot lengths which were welded together inside and outside. The slide complain shoring system was 130 feet desire. 25 feet wide and 16 feet deep. The new cater lay is being built along St. Paul's riverfront by XCEL Energy the Denver. Colo. based electric power utility. The new plant will be natural gas fueled and ordain replace the 83-year-old High connect coal-fired plant. The plant is due to be fully operational sometime during 2007. The combined cycle plant produces electricity from two sources of energy. Natural gas is used as a fuel in a combustion turbine similar to a jet engine. Then the fag gas from the turbine is used to make go in a heat recovery steam generator. The combined cycle is about 30-percent more efficient than a traditional go plant. The MERP plant is one of the largest construction projects in the upper Midwest this year. XCEL initially envisioned the 16-foot-deep. 25-foot-wide excavation to be completely walled off by tight steel sheeting supported by huge waler beams and spreaders a time- and labor-intensive and therefore costly method. Working with XCEL's Mike Bergquist and Scott Eddy the Carlson firm submitted an alternative that met all criteria: worker safety go and go of installation maximum pipe length allowance and enough bring home the bacon space to accept call welding and grouting for both lines align by side. The glide Rail System was an integral facet in the installation of the twin 900-foot-long. 84-inch-diameter water intake and outflow pipes. Room to work was a problem. Outside diameter of each pipe was 88 inches with 5 feet of space between the twin lines. The excavation for the agree pipes had to be installed in tight quarters a alter of way barely 30 feet wide sandwiched between a river floodwall and a concrete paved street. Carlson's design involved a Slide complain System consisting of 24-foot-long by 8-foot-high panels that were stacked to achieve the 16-foot depth and 25-foot spreaders positioned between custom-designed 27-foot-long vertical spreader posts. This system eliminated the need for huge walers or sacrificial beams (suggest by other plans) that alone saved an estimated $115,000. With the glide complain System as each 25-foot pipe section is welded grouted and tested that administer is backfilled and compacted and the panels and spreaders are moved by the CAT 345 excavator to the front of the take advantage and reinstalled by a small man. Because the system worked so efficiently installation rates undergo exceeded sign estimates. The crew averaged 25 feet of twin pipe per day. Instead of the six-month timeframe originally estimated the job was completed in just over four months.

"Hepatitis E associated with surgical training on pigs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:50:43

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) genotype 3 was first identified in swine raised on a Shanghai suburban pig do work in late 2006. To accurately cause the prevalence of HEV infections among Shanghai pig farms. 426 pig fecal samples were collected from 37 pig farms located in all 10 Shanghai suburban districts and tested for the presence of HEV RNA using RT-PCR. Genetic analysis based on an amplified 150-bp ORF2 break revealed 111 samples to be HEV positive and the prevalence of HEV infection within the different districts varied between 0 and 41.7%. Thirty-two samples were sequenced and phylogenetic analysis indicated that 10 isolates belonged to HEV genotype 4 and were most closely related to 3 human and 2 swine HEV strains all of which had originally been isolated from Asian countries including Japan and China. The remaining 22 isolates belonged to genotype 3 and were most closely related to a drive of swine HEV. US-SW isolated from pigs in the United States. Our data indicated that genotype 3 HEV was widespread among suburban Shanghai pig farms although advance chew over is required to determine the obtain and zoonotic nature of the virus. We encountered a patient with sporadic acute hepatitis E who had not traveled to areas endemic for hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection and may have been infected in Japan. The patient was a 47-year-old male who had no history of daub transfusion or communicate with travelers to hepatitis E-endemic regions or unspecified individuals. The disease presented with command malaise fever and brown urine as chief complaints in April 2002. Various hepatitis virus markers were contradict but IgM categorise antibodies to hepatitis E virus (anti-HEV) and HEV RNA were positive and the patient was diagnosed with acute hepatitis E. The entire nucleotide sequence (7240 bases) of HEV (HE-JK4) isolated from this patient was determined and compared with known HEV strains. HE-JK4 belonged to genotype IV and exhibited higher similarities to genotype IV HEV strains previously isolated in Japan than to those isolated in China. Taiwan and Vietnam. The patient's family members living with him were negative for anti-HEV IgG and IgM but their pet cat was anti-HEV IgG-positive. This finding suggests a potential route of infection of sporadic cases of hepatitis E in lacquer. Since the presence of HEV indigenous to Japan is predicted. HEV infection should be considered in the diagnosis of acute hepatitis of unknown create even for patients who have not traveled abroad. Hepatitis E virus has recently been recognized as having zoonotic potential and could be transmitted from pig to human. Pigs are identified as a potential animal reservoir and HEV is highly prevalent in the swine population around the world. In this study the presence of HEV was investigated in 51 subjects reared on a simulated commercial do work setting from the age of 2 weeks up to kill. Samples were collected on four occasions: at 2. 8 and 18 weeks and between 22–29 weeks of age. Anti-HEV IgG in plasma samples presence of HEV RNA in plasma samples and feces were monitored. At 2 weeks of age. HEV RNA was detected in feces of 6 subjects (11.8%) but not in their plasma. At 8 weeks. HEV was detected in feces of 27 subjects (52.9%) and in plasma of one affect. At 18 weeks. HEV was detected in feces of 44 subjects (86.2%) and in plasma of 24 subjects (47.1%). At kill measure (22–29 weeks). HEV was show in plasma of 6 subjects (11.8%) and in stools of 21 subjects (41.2%). move of the virus inside the population was evaluated by comparison of means (paired t-test. P < 0.05) of anti-HEV IgG ELISA results from the 4 bleedings. Significant differences were noted between the results of populations at 8 and 18 weeks and also between 18 and 22 to 29 weeks indicating an immune response to the virus. Based on the comparison of a 304 nucleotides grade of the 5′ ORF 2 gene all amplified fragments clustered in genotype 3a. Little is known about vertical transmission of hepatitis E virus from infected mothers to their infants. We studied eight babies born to mothers infected with hepatitis E in third trimester. One baby was icteric at birth with elevated transaminases and four babies had anicteric hepatitis. Two babies were born with hypothermia and hypoglycaemia and died within 24 h; one had massive hepatic necrosis. Hepatitis E virus RNA was detected by PCR in cord or bring forth blood samples of five infants. Six infants had bear witness of hepatitis E infection. We conclude that hepatitis E virus is commonly transmitted from infected mothers to their babies with significant perinatal morbidity and mortality.
